Rendezvous Hotel Sydney Central
Being a tourist in your old hometown is a surreal experience. Staying in a hotel in a city where you worked every day, and walked to and from work every day is also a surreal experience.
My most recent trip to Sydney was during the Vivid festival. This fabulous light festival is on during Sydney’s coldest part of the year (and let’s be frank – whilst it’s still not bikini weather, it’s still very mild for winter). The CBD and its surrounds are packed with tourists, and finding a hotel becomes a matter of deciding which is best placed to see the different Vivid displays and events.
For two nights during Vivid, I stayed at the Rendezvous Hotel in Sydney’s Central area.
I booked a Deluxe Room King. The accommodation has been renovated recently, with the carpet, furnishings, and furniture looking clean, modern, and contemporary.
The bed was comfortable, and the mattress the right level between firm and soft.
The bathroom was a good size, and well stocked with toiletries. I loved the shower, with a generous, rainfall shower head. After travelling through South East Asia for months, a good shower like this one felt like the ultimate luxury.
Guestrooms also include MP3 docking stations, flat-screen TVs, wireless Internet access, desks, minibars/refrigerators, and coffee/tea makers. All rooms have free WiFi capped at 100MB over 24 hours, and wired internet access for 15 AUD per 24-hour period.
Location wise, this hotel is *perfect* for tourists. It’s centrally located (as per the area’s namesake!) making it just right for walking to the different parts of Sydney – Darling Harbour for views and tourist attractions like the aquarium and Imax, Ciruclar Quay to get on a ferry or see the Opera House, and to Kings Cross, Paddington and Surry Hills for shopping, eating and drinking.
It’s also a great location for business visitors to Sydney. Located right in the Central Business District, and nearby to Chinatown, it’s convenient for getting to meetings, and for having great after work meals.
Staff, Ambience, Dining & Drink
The hotel staff were warm and friendly, which was nice after a long drive in bumper to bumper traffic from the Blue Mountains to Sydney. They were also efficient, my check in, check out, and assisting with the car parking happening in lightning fast time – always appreciated when you’re off to your next destination in another state!
I didn’t eat on this occasion, choosing instead to try out the infamous Lord of The Fries just up the road. I was a little disappointed with that, and wish I’d chosen to eat at the hotel’s restaurant. It was busy, and filled with content seeming families and business types.
Would we stay here again?
It’s a great hotel for both tourists and business travelers – warm and efficient service, a comfortable room, and in a convenient location. I’d recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Sydney, and I’d love to have a repeat stay so I can check out the rooftop pool and sauna I missed out on during my winter visit!
